UPC taps Sarah Aguti Nyangkori for Dokolo Woman MP race
Sarah Aguti Nyangkori,

The Uganda People's Congress (UPC) is set to nominate its candidate, Sarah Aguti Nyangkori, for the Dokolo District Woman MP by-election on Monday, March 11, 2024, at 11 am.

The nomination ceremony will take place at the Electoral Commission offices in Dokolo.

In a statement released by Faizo Muzeyi, the UPC Head of Media and Communications, he emphasized the party's commitment to grassroots mobilization and rebuilding.

"The UPC President Hon. Jimmy Akena will lead the Congress fraternity to nominate the Party's Candidate in realization of his commitment to rebuild the Party through grassroots mobilisation," he stated.

Sarah Aguti Nyangori emerged as the official party flag bearer following the UPC District Conference held on February 19, 2024, at Dokolo Catholic Parish.

This decision came after the voluntary withdrawal of fellow party members, Comrades Josephine Acen Okullu and Anna Okwir, who had previously shown interest in the position.

"Comrade Sarah Aguti Nyangori was declared the official Party flag bearer for the Dokolo Woman MP seat after stepping down of Comrades Josephine Acen Okullu and Anna Okwir who had shown interest in the position, in her favour during the UPC District Conference held on 19th February 2024 at Dokolo Catholic Parish,"Muzeyi Faizo

Muzeyi expressed the party's full support for their chosen candidate.

"Just like Oyam North by-election, the Party President confirmed the entire UPC will be on the ground in support of our candidate," he stated.

The seat became vacant after Cecilia Ogwal's passing last month while serving in Parliament under the FDC banner. The by-election is scheduled for the 21st of this month.

The Dokolo by-election, triggered by the vacancy left by the former Woman MP's demise, has sparked significant political interest and discussions in the district.

With Aguti as the UPC flag bearer, the stage is set for a competitive and spirited electoral contest in Dokolo.
